It is said that we store emotions in our body – “issues in the tissues”. Yoga Therapy is a transformative technique allowing an individual to explore their emotional holding patterns that creates dis-ease and dis-comfort. Creating a connection between the mind, body and spirit – the all of who you are – can make you feel fully alive.
When we reach emotional overload we need assistance to allow the release; which allows us to process these trapped emotions. Yoga therapy is a one-on-one session consisting of practitioner assisted yoga postures and a dialogue process that is client-centered, open-ended and non-directive. This aids in allowing you to push pass the edge of the physical blockages whilst working through emotional challenges.
Many of us have been taught to suppress and stifle our natural emotions and we unlearn our ability to listen to our bodies. Although yoga as a practice is therapeutic, there is a significant difference between a yoga class and a yoga therapy session. This is a very client lead process of self-discovery that facilitates mindfulness and deep connection to the self, with a focus of inner witnessing without the need to fix or change. Energetically the meridian lines that carry energy to major organs are stimulated sometimes eliciting strong emotional responses when these meridian or associated organs has blockages. Becoming aware of this emotional response is an opportunity to watch what is happening without blame, to simply note whether there are feelings arising and in observation allowing your emotions to blossom.
This process further facilitates an individual through an experience of being in the present moment, allowing you to discover blocks that may be hindering your healing process. The body-mind psychology helps individuals explore a connection of what is happening in their bodies and what is happening in their lives. Noticing how physical sensations conjure up emotions, memories, words and whatever else is happening in the now! This form of therapy draws upon the wise and compassionate aspect of yourself to see if there is any additional guidance.
No prior yoga experience is required – just a body and a willingness to investigate through gentle movements in a relaxed and safe environment. This integration helps relieve stress and long held patterns of holding tension in the body, cultivating clear discernment and acknowledgment of your emotions all while gaining clarity in their life. This helps you to make choices that support your highest good. This is truly transformative body work!
